From the day we were created, we were made to be in relationship with Jesus Christ. He is the core of our existence. There is no life apart from him.
So who is he? What sort of man is this?
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” (Colossians 1:1)
God in the flesh? Can you believe it! Can you imagine people’s chatter when he showed up. They speculated, argued, wondered. Did you hear? …. It is said of him that … Can it be? … Many sought to understand him. Many sought to shut him out. To some, he was a threat. To others, salvation.
When Jesus calms the storm in Matthew 8:27, the disciples said, “What sort of man is this, which even the winds and the sea obey him?” Jesus was incomparable. He did miracles that defied the imagination. He possessed power, authority, and a capacity to love unlike anything the world had seen.
So who is he? This question is important because it is personal. It is the most important question you will ever have to answer. Who is he to YOU? Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). In John 3:16, we read, “This how much God loved the world: He gave his Son so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.”
Jesus Christ is God’s Son. He came down from his glorified place in heaven to walk among us. He displayed his position and power to prove his testimony. He suffered and died and rose again, all for us. When we believe in Jesus Christ, we begin a relationship with him that lasts throughout all eternity. It is a relationship that brings a full life, true life, a life for which we have always longed.
It seems very obvious to say that the deity of Christ gives us strength and confidence. He is all powerful, all-knowing, and omnipresent. All authority in heaven and on earth is given to Him.
Christ’s humanity should give us just as much confidence as His deity. Christ was not God’s last option to save humanity. We were made in God’s image from day one of our existence. Jesus Christ is the perfection of that image. It was God’s will from the beginning to send His Son to walk with us. His humanity affirms our humanity and proves God’s loving plan for humankind. His perfection as a man shows us our full potential. We are not “just human.” We are becoming perfected humanity. Sealed by his Holy Spirit, we are becoming like Jesus – a journey that begins the moment we are saved.
It is a question people have asked for generations: “What must I do to be saved?” A jailor asked the question of the Apostle Paul. The answer was simple, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:30).
So how do you do that? Jesus provides the answer, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Salvation is found in Jesus. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).
If so, pray to God the following:
I’m praying this prayer because I know that I have done wrong. Please forgive me of all the things I have done wrong in the past.
Help me to put you as Lord of my life and keep me focused on the plans you have for me. I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and now He is Lord over my life.
Thank you for saving me. Thank you that I am now a Christian.
